Resignation earthquake in the Future Party: Will 'that' name join the AKP?

Antalya Deputy Prof. Dr. Serap Yazıcı Özbudun has announced that she has left the Future Party, of which she was a founding member. Making a statement via her social media account, Özbudun's decision came shortly after her party reacted to the AKP.

Reports that emerged earlier today claimed that Özbudun would resign from the Future Party and join the AKP. Özbudun announced her decision to resign a few hours after these claims.

In a post on her X account, Özbudun stated the following:

''I am resigning from the Future Party due to necessity as I see it.''

CLAIMS THAT SHE WILL 'JOIN THE AKP'

It has been alleged that Özbudun, who left the Future Party, will join the ruling party at the AKP's Ordinary Grand Congress to be held tomorrow. Following the claims in Ankara political circles, the Future Party made a reference to the AKP regarding 'Güneş Motel tactics'.

Responding to the congress invitation extended by the AKP to the Future Party, Ahmet Davutoğlu noted the following:

''With Güneş Motel-style tactics, some of our deputies are facing transfer efforts to be used as show material at the AK Party Congress.''

FUTURE PARTY'S STATEMENT

Following the AKP's 'calling its members back home' to the Future Party, Davutoğlu's party emphasized that it is not possible for them to 'return'. In response to the claims and the AKP's congress invitation, the Future Party recalled that the ruling party had approached them in the past with an attitude that 'did not comply with political courtesy'.

In the statement made by the Future Party, the AKP's political stance was criticized as follows:

''On the evening of Friday, February 21, an invitation to attend the AK Party General Congress to be held in Ankara on February 23 was conveyed to us. As a matter of principle, we believe that in this process where extraordinary conditions prevail in the world and in our country, communication and consultation between parties in accordance with political courtesy is not a preference but a necessity. For this reason, since the moment our party was founded, we have accepted invitations from every political party regardless of our differences of opinion, and we have extended invitations to every party, including the AK Party, which has avoided all kinds of contact until now.

However, we have also witnessed that during the process in which this invitation was made, some initiatives were taken against our party that do not comply with any principle of political ethics and courtesy. Those who could not prevent the establishment of our party with heavy pressure and troll attacks, those who could not stop our party's organization with ruthless pressure applied locally, those who could not intimidate our party's important founders with barbaric attacks by street gangs and court cases, and those who could not prevent our party's representation in the TBMM and then its formation of a strong group as an alliance, have this time engaged in transfer efforts to use some of our deputies as show material for the AK Party Congress with 'Güneş Motel-style' tactics that have been etched into the memory of Turkish society.''
