Retired prosecutor targets Ekrem İmamoğlu: 'A FETÖ project'

Retired prosecutor Mehmet Demir has claimed that Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu is "a FETÖ project."

Demir's statements quickly drew backlash on social media and among the public.

The controversial remarks about İmamoğlu by retired prosecutor Mehmet Demir are as follows: 

'Ekrem İmamoğlu is a FETÖ project.' The person making this statement was a prosecutor during the period when FETÖ was at its most powerful. One is left with this question: If you are speaking like this today, why didn't you fight it back then? Why couldn't you prevent it? Why were you silent that day?
