Saadet leader Karamollaoğlu's 'Erbakan' statement: 'Erdoğan had his house surrounded by police'

Saadet Party Chairman Temel Karamollaoğlu appeared on a KRT broadcast. 

In his remarks during the program, Karamollaoğlu stated that President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan wanted to have Necmettin Erbakan, the founding leader of the Welfare Party (Refah Partisi), imprisoned.

Karamollaoğlu spoke as follows:

"HE WAS GOING TO HAVE HIM IMPRISONED TO DISCREDIT HIM"

"When Erbakan Hoca was sentenced to prison in 2006, Tayyip Erdoğan had his house surrounded by police. He made a great effort to have him imprisoned. Because he had been convicted. He was going to take him from his house... He was going to have him imprisoned to discredit our Hoca, to make him look bad. His house was surrounded. 

"HE ENSURED IT WAS CONVERTED TO HOUSE ARREST"

At that time, may God have mercy on his soul, Hasan Kalyoncu, our former Gaziantep provincial chairman, who had also taken part in the founding of the AK Party, went to Tayyip Erdoğan. He said, 'If you arrest Erbakan, I will bring this place down on your head. I will not let you survive politically.' Upon that, Mr. Tayyip ensured it was converted to house arrest. And subsequently, after Abdullah Gül became President, he himself carried out the pardon of our Erbakan Hoca. In other words, Erbakan Hoca was able to return to political life with this pardon by Abdullah Gül. Following that, he became the Chairman of the Saadet Party in the 2010 elections."
