Sancaktepe Mayor Yeğin: 'We will hold past administrators accountable'

Another striking statement has come from Sancaktepe, which shifted from the AKP to the CHP on March 31 and became a topic of discussion due to the controversial, extravagant office floor built during the AKP era and a 2 billion lira debt. Sancaktepe Mayor Alper Yeğin shared information regarding the AKP period. Yeğin said, "Just because we haven't dealt with past administrators yet doesn't mean we won't. Those who awarded these tenders, those who made these irregular payments, and those who saddled this municipality with 300 to 400 million in debt just three days before the election; those who squandered nearly seven or eight months of the municipality's budget in just two months—we will hold them all accountable, friends."

The debts of Sancaktepe, which had previously been the subject of controversy due to the extravagant office floor built during the AKP era and its 2 billion lira debt, were brought to the agenda once again at the municipal council meeting held under the chairmanship of Mayor Alper Yeğin. Providing information regarding the municipality's debt, Yeğin stated the following:

"Just because we haven't dealt with past administrators yet doesn't mean we won't. Those who awarded these tenders, those who made these irregular payments, and those who saddled this municipality with 300 to 400 million in debt just three days before the election; those who squandered nearly seven or eight months of the municipality's budget in just two months—we will hold them all accountable, friends. 45 million lira in election aid came from the Presidency. To which companies did they transfer the money from the Presidency, which was sent with the intention of using it for the election and winning the election? We will demand an accounting for all of these, from which companies they were transferred and where they were sent. We are identifying all of these, and we will continue to do so; let there be no perception that we are not dealing with or interested in this due to our busy schedule. We will explain everything this municipality has done, dating back to 2010 and 2009, to everyone and to the public one by one."

2 BILLION LIRA DEBT WAS HUNG ON THE BUILDING

The debt table of the Sancaktepe Municipality in Istanbul was hung on the municipal building on April 16, following the elections. It was revealed that the municipality, which had been governed by the AK Party for 15 years, was handed over with a debt of approximately 2 billion TL, and CHP Sancaktepe District Chair Emre Yılmaz shared the debt table with the words, "The heavy toll of a plunder on the people of Sancaktepe."
