Scathing remarks from Erdoğan's former speechwriter to İlber Ortaylı and Celal Şengör! 'Both ignorant and chasing after a show...'

Aydın Ünal, former speechwriter for AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, argued in his column in Yeni Şafak that a version of Turkism being promoted in Turkey serves Zionism and imperialism.

In his article titled "Islam is our overarching identity", Ünal harshly criticized İlber Ortaylı and Celal Şengör.

Ünal claimed that Ortaylı and Şengör distort historical facts, presenting a false perception of history to young people, which he argued causes them to lose their way. Ünal stated, "These figures, who have both moral weaknesses, are ignorant, and are chasing after a show, have conveyed false information to young people with the support they receive from inside and outside."

In his article, Ünal suggested that racist tendencies have been spreading among young people in Turkey in recent years, arguing that such ideas serve Zionism and imperialism under the guise of Turkism. Ünal used the expression, "Our overarching identity in Turkey is Islam, and the war waged against this identity is also a threat to the Turkish existence."

Stating that President Erdoğan makes accurate references to history in his speeches and emphasizes the overarching Muslim identity, Ünal stressed that this approach is correct and effective. Ünal emphasized the importance of reading and teaching history correctly.
