Scuffle between CHP and AKP members: Tensions rise at İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Council meeting

The 2025 activity report was discussed during the third session of the April council meeting. İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay responded to the criticisms directed at him. Following Mayor Tugay's speech, Deputy Speaker Zafer Levent Yıldır, who was chairing the session, decided to proceed to a vote on the activity report.
SCUFFLE AMONG COUNCIL MEMBERS
The decision to proceed to the voting process without allowing the opposition party group deputy chairs to speak sparked a debate in the council. While MHP Group Deputy Chair Bahadır Altınkeser was criticizing Mayor Tugay, tension flared between CHP and AKP members, leading to a scuffle.
ACTIVITY REPORT PASSED BY MAJORITY VOTE
Following the arguments, Mayor Cemil Tugay left the council chamber. With Tugay's departure, the tension among the council members escalated further. Despite the disputes, the 2025 activity report of the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality was passed by the council by a majority vote.
