Shoebox tension at Antalya municipal council meeting

The July council meeting of the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality was held for the first time following the arrest of Mayor Muhittin Böcek.
CHP members attended the meeting wearing Yörük scarves to show their support for Böcek. The tension rose from time to time during the meeting, which also drew significant interest from citizens.
The meeting was chaired by Deputy Mayor of Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Bayram Ali Çeltik, in place of the incarcerated Böcek.
AKP Group Chairman Bahaddin Bayraktar emphasized in his speech that Turkey should not be associated with luxury consumer goods, stating that such images hurt the public conscience.

Following these remarks, CHP Council Member Mehmet Balık left a shoebox on the AKP benches.
At the same time, it was observed that shoes were thrown down from the council balcony.
These incidents caused tense moments in the council chamber. CHP members and citizens expressed their reactions with slogans.
