Signed statement from CHP

The Republican People's Party (CHP) issued its own statement, separate from the joint declaration signed by the AKP, MHP, IYI Party, and Saadet Party in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, stating, 'We condemn terrorism.'

The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) saw a declaration signed by the AKP, MHP, IYI Party, and Saadet Party condemning the attacks by the PKK terrorist organization, stating, "Terror and violence will never reach their goals."

While the DEM Party did not sign the declaration, the CHP issued a separate statement calling for a national period of mourning to be declared.

"WE WILL CONTINUE OUR STRUGGLE WITH DETERMINATION"

CHP leader Özgür Özel stated, "We will never allow terrorism to reach its goals. We will continue our struggle for Turkey's independence and integrity with determination. While doing so, we will not line up behind those responsible. We do not just condemn terrorism, we CURSE it!!! May our nation have our condolences."

"IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT A CLOSED SESSION BE HELD IMMEDIATELY"

The statement issued by the CHP is as follows:

"Our country has been shaken by the dark news received on the nights of December 22-23, 2023. The cowardly attacks in which twelve of our fellow citizens were martyred have once again shown the dirty face of terrorism.

We curse terrorism, the treacherous terrorist organization, and its inhumane methods. The terrorists who planned, incited, and carried out these heinous attacks will never achieve their goals.

The safety of our soldiers and the health status of our wounded are our primary concerns. Beyond the fact that 12 martyrs were lost in the same region for two consecutive nights, the lack of reliable information shared with the public regarding whether the safety of our soldiers currently in the region is fully ensured further increases our nation's pain and sorrow.

For this reason, it is imperative that the TBMM hold a closed session without any delay, starting from tonight, and that the Minister of National Defense come to the Veteran Assembly to inform the deputies. We believe that only after this session can the political party groups, having received comprehensive and accurate information about the region and developments, work on a joint text.

"DECLARING A NATIONAL DAY OF MOURNING IS THE COMMON DEMAND OF THE ENTIRE SOCIETY"

We consider any steps taken without clarifying why these treacherous attacks could not be prevented and whether there was any negligence by those responsible as a disrespect to the memory of our martyrs.

Furthermore, it is the common demand of the entire society that a National Day of Mourning be declared following such a painful and tragic event that has plunged our nation into indescribable sorrow and grief. We invite the government to take a stance in this direction without further delay.

We will never allow terrorism to reach its goals. We will continue our struggle for Turkey's independence and integrity with determination.

May our nation have our condolences."
