SOL Party's 'May Day' assessment: The walls the government built like the Great Wall of China will not save it

The SOL Party has released a written statement evaluating the events of May 1st.

In the statement titled "A Government Racing Toward Its Demise," it was noted that the government had practically placed Istanbul under blockade.

The statement, which included the phrase, "The defeated and step-by-step crumbling government has practically placed all of Istanbul under blockade to suppress the rising struggle of the people," continued as follows:

Against a government that drags the entire society into hunger and misery; millions of oppressed laborers—retirees left to die, workers condemned to starvation-level wages, youth drowning in the vortex of unemployment, and women—filled the May Day squares.

"A SIGN OF THE AKP'S HELPLESSNESS"

The barricades set up with tens of thousands of police officers all over Istanbul, the police attacks in Beşiktaş and on Istiklal, the closed roads, and the Valens Aqueduct in Saraçhane surrounded by water cannons (TOMA) are all signs of the AKP's helplessness.

The walls the government has built like the Great Wall of China, behind which it hides while trying to survive through bans, oppression, and tyranny, will not save it.

Everyone, especially those in power, will see that there is no barricade that cannot be torn down and no obstacle that cannot be overcome by the strong arms of the working people.

May 1, 2024, has been a new indicator that this regime is doomed to collapse and one of the strongest calls for Turkey's will for a new foundation against oppression.

The SOL Party will organize this call, which rose from the May Day squares where it participated in 80 locations, step by step.

'CHP AND DİSK TURNED THEIR BACKS ON THE LABORERS'

On the other hand, the fact that DİSK executives, who had been calling for Taksim for days with the words "we have turned our faces to TAKSIM," withdrew from the area along with CHP leaders and executives, turning their backs on tens of thousands of laborers, was experienced as a negative aspect of this May Day.

We salute the tens of thousands who upheld the will for Taksim in Saraçhane and all the laborers who filled all the streets of the country!

Now is the time to march to build our country's more equal, freer, fairer, and brotherly tomorrows against a government that has completed its lifespan and is racing toward its collapse in a state of great helplessness."
