The Co-Chairs of the DEM Party have issued a statement regarding their meeting with Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş.

The DEM Party Co-Chairs noted that during the meeting with Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş, they emphasized the importance of Abdullah Öcalan's status within the framework law, stating, "Our greatest wish and demand is that the framework law paves the way for democratic integration and creates a political climate and legal foundation that will increase democracy, law, and freedoms for everyone."

DEM Party Co-Chairs Tülay Hatimoğulları and Tuncer Bakırhan issued a written statement regarding their meeting with Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş, which took place today and lasted approximately 45 minutes.

The statement indicated that during the meeting with Numan Kurtulmuş, it was expressed that "the law should have the character of a root law and should be of a nature that paves the way for the democratic resolution of the Kurdish issue and the democratization of Turkey," and the following was noted:

"We once again stated the vital importance of ensuring the status of Mr. Abdullah Öcalan, as well as his conditions for free work and communication, within the framework law. We emphasized that the framework law, with its inclusive character, should provide the contribution to move the resolution of the Kurdish issue from a ground of conflict and violence to a legal and political ground. We pointed out that a regulation that could reproduce the repetitions and clichés of the past would not be able to respond to this process. A framework law focused on peace and democratic resolution will be a remedy for our troubles. We expressed our sensitivity regarding the progress of the Peace and Democratic Society Process in a way that will protect the interests of 86 million people and safeguard everyone's dignity. We emphasized that it is of vital importance to obtain the contributions of all political parties regarding the law.

The democratic resolution of the century-old Kurdish issue is a matter that transcends political parties. We emphasized that as we move toward a democratic resolution of the Kurdish issue, the method of preparing the framework law should be inclusive, and that the mechanisms to be established during the implementation process of the law will contribute to the socialization of peace. Our greatest wish and demand is that the framework law paves the way for democratic integration and creates a political climate and legal foundation that will increase democracy, law, and freedoms for everyone. We reiterate our determination to bring the Peace and Democratic Society Process to success. We once again share with the public our satisfaction with Mr. Kurtulmuş's visit and his efforts."
