Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Group Deputy Chair Sezai Temelli made assessments regarding the current agenda at a press conference he held in Parliament.
REACTION TO CAN ATALAY DECISION
Stating that Turkey is increasingly moving away from law and justice, Temelli criticized the decision of the Court of Cassation 3rd Criminal Chamber regarding Gezi prisoner and TIP Hatay MP Can Atalay.
Expressing that the Constitutional Court fulfilled the requirements of the Constitution and that this decision cannot be debated, Temelli shared the view: "Everyone is obliged to comply with the decisions of the Constitutional Court. You may not like the Constitution, you may want to change it. This is the duty of this Parliament, this is something that will be achieved through social consensus. It is not possible for any court to stand up and pass judgment on this matter, nor is it meaningful."
Temelli stated, "The judiciary in Turkey is not independent. The judiciary is overly dependent, biased, and politicized. We must put an end to this immediately. As long as we do not put an end to this, this collapse in the justice system will continue to drag the country into very great disasters. The collapse of the justice system for the sake of keeping the Presidential Government System alive constitutes the source of the problems in the country."
RESPONSE TO CHP QUESTION
Upon a journalist's question about whether the DEM Party and CHP would cooperate in Istanbul, Temelli stated that all possibilities are being evaluated, that there could be work on places that can be won through a union of forces, and that these will be announced to the public.
STATEMENT ON BAŞAK DEMİRTAŞ
When reminded of the statement by Başak Demirtaş, the wife of former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş, that she "could be a candidate from Istanbul if the party deems it appropriate," Temelli said, "It is a pleasing thing for us that Ms. Başak Demirtaş has applied for candidacy. We want everyone to apply to this pool, but of course, our commissions and our Central Executive Board (MYK) will make the evaluation."
