President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan chaired the MYK meeting, after which AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik made statements. Çelik noted that work is ongoing regarding a raise for pensions.
Highlights from AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik's speech are as follows:
THE RISE OF LEFT-WING PARTIES
"There are places where left-wing parties are rising, but unfortunately, we also see the rise of the far-right in Europe beneath the surface. This is an important issue for the future of European democracies.
THE PENALTY GIVEN TO MERİH IS UNACCEPTABLE
We congratulate 'our boys' on our national team. The penalty given to Merih is unacceptable. The fact that this penalty was published in certain circles before the decision was even made shows that there was a political shadow here. European politicians are the ones who should be addressed. While they target Merih, they remain silent on the PKK. Those looking for extreme racism in such situations should look at election results and developments in their own societies.
OUR WORK IS ONGOING
A journalist asked Çelik, "Reports have surfaced in the lobbies today that there is some work being done to increase the lowest pension from 10,000 TL to 12,000 TL. Is there such a study? If so, what stage is it at, and will it be ready for the July salaries?"
Ömer Çelik replied, "The matter is being worked on. You are asking if it will be ready by this time. The work is continuing. No decision has been made yet. Since no decision has been reached, we cannot say that such and such a result has emerged."
