CHP Istanbul Provincial Presidency held a simultaneous press conference with 81 provincial organizations regarding the Presidential motion to extend the mandate of the Turkish Armed Forces in Iraq and Syria for another 2 years.

"IT PAVES THE WAY"

The party's Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik, in his press statement, reminded that the motion was accepted in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) and said that the CHP supports any kind of fight against terrorism without any ifs or buts.

Stating that it is their duty to share the concerns contained in the motion with the nation, Çelik said, "The motion in question paves the way for the presence of foreign soldiers in Turkey, or to put it more clearly, for foreign military boots to tread upon our sacred homeland."

Claiming that the CHP objects to the article that opens the doors of the homeland to foreign soldiers under the name of "counter-terrorism," Çelik stated that it is impossible for them to accept the phrase "the presence of foreign armed forces in Turkey."
