Statement regarding DEVA and Democrat Party's parliamentary group formation talks

DEVA Party Deputy Chairman and Mersin MP Mehmet Emin Ekmen held a press conference at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM).

During the meeting, Ekmen stated that the most important way to use the TBMM effectively is through the right of political party groups to speak during General Assembly and committee deliberations.

TALKS WITH THE DEMOCRAT PARTY CONTINUE

Stating that they are in talks with the Democrat Party to form a parliamentary group, Ekmen said, "We have 15 deputies, and the Democrat Party has 3 deputies. There are currently 7-8 independent deputies as well. When all of these come together, the importance of forming a group to effectively use the parliamentary podium to voice our nation's interests and problems is clear."

Expressing that there is a very strong consensus among the deputies regarding the formation of a joint group, Ekmen noted that while there may be disagreements in different areas with other parties considered for inclusion in the group, he believes this situation will not harm the parties' own stances.

Ekmen continued his remarks as follows:

"There is also traffic between the headquarters of the political parties. However, as of today, it is not possible for me to share information that the negotiation traffic between the political parties has ended or that the group will be formed with these specific deputies and in this specific way. Currently, there are enough independent deputy colleagues of ours, colleagues from other parties without groups, and deputy colleagues who are uneasy and unhappy with what is happening and the direction of their own parties. We believe that once an agreement in principle is reached with the Democrat Party, the 20 deputies required to form a group can be easily reached and even exceeded. As of today, there is no definitive statement we can share with the public, but our goal and desire is to open the new legislative year of Parliament with a joint group."
