Journalist Aytunç Erkin brought a striking behind-the-scenes claim regarding the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) to the agenda. Speaking on the program "Directly with Buket Aydın" broadcast on TV100, Erkin stated that the "Fool Case" process concerning Ekrem İmamoğlu could affect the balances in the IMM Assembly.

Erkin noted that there are 185 CHP members in the IMM Assembly and conveyed that it is being discussed that approximately 40 of these members are names close to Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. According to Erkin, if the Court of Cassation upholds the sentence given to İmamoğlu and a political ban results, a mayoral election will be held in the IMM Assembly.

In his assessment regarding this possibility, Erkin stated, "They say that in a process where these 40 assembly members might shift sides, a mayoral election will be held in the assembly because a political ban will come with the conclusion of Ekrem İmamoğlu's 'Fool Case'. In that case, there is a high probability of a different result emerging."

Speaking on the program following Erkin's remarks, journalist Barış Yarkadaş argued that there is a common concern among different wings to ensure the IMM is not lost. Yarkadaş stated that Ekrem İmamoğlu has also been involved in this discussion and that an evaluation meeting was held in Istanbul.

Yarkadaş said, "This concern exists among both IYI Party members and the CHP. That is why Ekrem İmamoğlu has also been involved in this discussion. I think the first consensus between the IYI Party and the CHP will be here to ensure the IMM is not lost. The IMM will not be lost to the AKP under any circumstances."
