As eyes turn to the convention process in the CHP following the nullity decision, discussions regarding whether Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu will run for the chairmanship have also come to the fore.
While it is stated that the CHP's 38th Ordinary Convention, which was canceled by the appellate court, is envisioned to be held in the March-April 2027 period, CHP sources emphasized the "will of the delegates" in the candidacy discussions.
According to the report by Nefes, regarding Kılıçdaroğlu's potential candidacy, sources assessed, "We have a culture, and that is the will of the delegates. If the delegates call on Mr. Kemal to 'be a candidate,' as he has already expressed himself, Mr. Kemal will be a candidate on the spot."
Party sources stated that Turkey is going through a sensitive period in terms of foreign policy and regional developments, arguing that the CHP should be managed by an experienced figure during this process. The sources used the expressions, "The Middle East and Turkey are passing through a ring of fire; in this process, the party needs to be managed by someone reliable. That person is Mr. Kemal."
In the same assessment, attention was also drawn to the CHP's relationship with the state, stating, "The CHP does not conflict with the state; it provides direction to it. Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu's experience is also very important at this point."
NAMES STANDING OUT FOR CANDIDACY
CHP Elazığ Deputy Gürsel Erol, in a statement he made the other day, had listed Aytuğ Atıcı, Muharrem İnce, Engin Altay, Oğuz Kaan Salıcı, Ali Öztunç, and Vahap Seçer among the names who could be rivals to Kılıçdaroğlu for the chairmanship.
