Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Deputy Mayor Nuri Aslan, along with CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik and Beyoğlu Mayor İnan Güney, attended the official ceremony held at the Taksim Republic Monument as part of the 105th April 23 celebrations.

The official part of the ceremony concluded with the laying of a wreath at the monument by Provincial Director of National Education Murat Mücahit Yentür, a moment of silence, and the singing of the National Anthem.

Following the conclusion of the official ceremony, Aslan placed the IMM wreath at the Republic Monument, accompanied by a municipal police honor guard and prolonged applause.

After Aslan, wreaths from political parties and non-governmental organizations also took their places around the monument.

ÖZGÜR ÇELİK'S "JUDICIARY" DIG AT THE GOVERNMENT

CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Çelik and IMM Deputy Mayor Aslan spoke to the press after the ceremony.

When asked, “It has been exactly 1 month since Ekrem İmamoğlu’s detention. It coincides exactly with April 23. What would you like to say?”, Çelik responded in summary:

“Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk gifted this special and meaningful day to children, who are the guarantee of our future. National sovereignty does not just mean placing a ballot box in front of citizens and acting as one wishes based on the results. National sovereignty also means judicial independence. National sovereignty means that fundamental rights and freedoms are under constitutional protection. National sovereignty means freedom of the press.

National sovereignty means that elected officials can perform their duties freely. Today, unfortunately, we all see that Turkey's democracy is being damaged, and that national sovereignty and the sovereignty of the nation are being undermined. Today, the judiciary has been politicized. Unfortunately, the minority government in Ankara is attempting to reclaim what it lost at the ballot box through a politicized judiciary, by appointing trustees to the elections it lost.”
