Striking remarks from Özgür Özel following the ceasefire

CHP leader Özgür Özel made statements regarding the current agenda at the opening ceremony of the Şişli Kuştepe Sports Facility and Underground Parking Lot. The CHP leader shared his assessment with the public regarding the two-week ceasefire reached between Iran and the United States.
“THERE ARE NO WINNERS IN WARS”
Stating that women, children, and vulnerable groups suffer the heaviest consequences of conflicts, Özel said, “For example, we finally received good news yesterday. We followed it with our hearts in our mouths. The war has stopped, at least for two weeks. There are no winners in wars.”
Expressing that the war creates economic impacts not only in conflict zones but also in Turkey, Özel said that the increase in oil prices is directly reflected in fuel prices. He stated that the rise in gasoline and diesel prices has increased the prices of many products, especially food.
“WE ARE FACING A NEW INFLATION”
The CHP leader stated that the developments have triggered a new inflationary process, saying, “Even the heaviest price of this war in Iran has started to be paid by the poor in Turkey. Because oil prices have increased gasoline and diesel prices. That increase has started to raise the price of everything from A to Z, especially food, and we are facing a new inflation.”
Noting that inflation refers to the rate of price increases, Özel assessed, “Inflation means the rate of price increases. So even if inflation were zero, prices would remain at the same level. When the government said inflation is falling, they meant the rate of increase was falling. Still, price hikes were being added on top of last year's hikes.”
“THE COST OF LIVING CONTINUES”
Emphasizing in the continuation of his statement that price increases are ongoing, Özel said, “But now, unfortunately, even the rate of increase is not falling. The cost of living is once again rapidly continuing to hurt us.”
