Striking remarks from Özgür Özel: 'The anger on the streets is directed at the government, they are trying to divert it'

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, who met with tradespeople at the Ulus Market, one of Ankara's historic commercial centers, was met with great interest. During his visit, Özel made evaluations regarding the current agenda, commenting on both developments within the party and Turkey's economic problems.

Chatting with citizens and listening to the problems of the tradespeople, Özel stated that the agenda of the Republican People's Party (CHP) is the economic difficulties experienced by the public.

"THERE IS A KNOWN ANGER ON THE STREETS"

Özgür Özel stated that the primary agenda of the citizens is economic problems and argued that the reaction on the streets is directed at the government.

Özel used the following expressions:

"There is a known anger on the streets. We are in a mistake here. The anger on the streets is directed at the government. That is why the government is trying to divert the anger directed at it due to poverty, the high cost of living, unemployment, and insecurity, by making it look like an issue within the Republican People's Party, as if it were a futile endeavor."

HE REMINDED OF THE BLACK SEA TOUR

Explaining that they are continuing their field work as a party, Özel also touched upon the visits they have carried out recently.

The CHP leader made the following assessment:

"Now friends, you know... They talked, talked, talked, and did the futile thing. Then they kicked us out of the building with the help of the police. We all walked to the Parliament together. We are putting up a fight in the Parliament, but... We started in the Black Sea from Trabzon last time, we visited 7 provinces. While saying we will visit 3 provinces starting tomorrow... We felt stifled in the Parliament too. Our deputies were saying; 'We are always going outside, let's walk around in Ankara. We were saying, let's visit this Ulus, the old Market for a long time'."

Özel said that they received great interest from both tradespeople and citizens during his visit to Ulus.

CALL FOR A CONGRESS TO KILIÇDAROĞLU

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel also made a call to former CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu in his statements.

Regarding the congress process, Özel said:

"Of course, the work that needs to be done is for Mr. Kemal to immediately send the signatures given yesterday to the notary, or rather to the district election board, saying 'We are holding a congress', and return us to the agenda of the streets as soon as possible."

Expressing that internal party debates should end, Özel stated that energy should be directed toward the problems of the citizens.

"You saw it here, you are following it yourselves. People are coming from everywhere. They are angry, they are speaking out, they are complaining, but we need to talk about the real problems of these citizens and turn this anger toward the government into energy to change this power. We were exactly there. The party has reached 38 percent, the AK Party is going downhill. While the entire opposition is heading toward a change of power on the right track, look at these absurd things happening."

"WE DON'T NEED A BUILDING"

The CHP leader also touched upon the discussions regarding the party building and emphasized his determination to continue field work.

Özel used the following expressions:

"That's why we said 'we don't need a building'. We were stifled, so we went out. We also received great support in Altındağ. You are following it too. We thank you."

Özel also stated that he would go to Denizli in the continuation of his program and would attend an event at the Journalists' Association in the evening.

"WE WILL CONTINUE TO TALK ABOUT THE PEOPLE'S PROBLEMS"

Stating that the priority of the Republican People's Party is the economic problems experienced by the citizens, Özgür Özel concluded his words as follows:

"The party of the people, the Republican People's Party, which talks about the problems of the citizens, talks about the fact that a 20 thousand lira pension is not enough, talks about the minimum wage, talks about the hopelessness of the youth, and talks about the desperation of the tradespeople here, will march to power."

"Despite all kinds of obstacles, despite all kinds of interventions, we will continue to talk about the problems of the nation. Thank God, there is a chairman at the head of the party who has been elected and can go out to the streets."
