Successive resignations in Keçiören: Another shock for the CHP

Following Keçiören Mayor Mesut Özarslan's resignation from the CHP, deputy mayors Tolga Turgut and Emir Can Tunç have announced that they are stepping down from their positions.

Following Özarslan's resignation, three municipal council members, one of whom was a deputy mayor, also announced their departure from the CHP.

After the successive resignations, Keçiören Deputy Mayor and Acting Mayor Tolga Turgut and Keçiören Deputy Mayor Emir Can Tunç announced that they have resigned from their duties.

Both individuals, who made statements on their social media accounts, emphasized that "what matters to us is not the positions, but the Republican People's Party (CHP)."

Tolga Turgut, in a statement on his social media account, noted the following:

'My dear fellow citizens, esteemed residents of Keçiören, and my father's hearth, my family, the members of the Republican People's Party; the Republican People's Party, which I entered as a child, where I took on various duties, and where I have served with honor for 20 years from the Youth Branch Provincial Presidency to the main body, is not just a political party for me and those who think like me; it is a belief, a struggle, and a life journey. While we were experiencing the honor of performing our duties day and night with the mandate given to us by our organization, without embarrassing anyone who supported us, and without ever bowing the heads of those who brought us to these positions, the point we have reached today is clear.

At the point we have reached today, we will fulfill the requirements of our struggle; we will not stand by personal positions, but will stand with our people, our organization, and our conscience with our heads held high. For this reason, I am resigning from my duties as Deputy Mayor and Acting Mayor of Keçiören Municipality. What matters to us is not the positions; it is the Republican People's Party.'

Emir Can Tunç, who resigned from his position as Deputy Mayor of Keçiören, used the following expressions in his statement on his social media account:

'I have come this far with your support on this path I set out on with my belief in the Republican People's Party and the values it defends. I took the principles and reforms of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk as my guide and served in this position with your will. At the point we have reached today, as a result of the changes in the political conjuncture, it is not possible for me to continue this duty.

Politics is not a matter of seats for me, but a matter of being able to stand tall with the values I believe in. It is not possible for me to turn my back on you, our esteemed citizens who have given their hearts to the Republican People's Party in Keçiören, who want change, and who defend Republican values. Continuing to remain in office would be an act of disloyalty to you. For this reason, entirely of my own will, as a requirement of my conscience and political ethics, I am resigning from my position as Deputy Mayor.

I want you to know that my loyalty is not to positions but to the Republic; my strength comes not from titles, but from the trust of the people. While leaving my post, I will continue to stand in the Republican People's Party, in the footsteps of Atatürk, and by the side of the people. I am grateful to all the people of Keçiören who trusted and supported me. My head is held high, my conscience is clear.'
