AKP Ankara Deputy Tuğrul Türkeş reacted to the targeting of IYI Party Adana Deputy and his sister Ayyüce Türkeş during a debate that took place in the Justice Commission.

Tensions rose between Ayyüce Türkeş and MHP members in the commission during discussions on the "framework law" brought to the agenda as part of the Imralı Process. Ayyüce Türkeş's criticisms regarding the process led by MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli caused a debate.

In her speech, Ayyüce Türkeş stated, "The politics practiced by Türkeş in 1997 is over. We have respect for the new leader who has come, but they cannot whitewash their own filth by using Türkeş as bleach for themselves."

Following these words, MHP's Bülbül slammed his hand on the table and shouted at Ayyüce Türkeş, "Watch your mouth, you are the filth!" As the argument escalated, the parties in the commission hall were calmed down with difficulty.

Making a statement on his social media account after the events, Tuğrul Türkeş described the attitude towards his sister as "intolerance" and an "aggressive stance."

In a very critical matter that directly concerns the future of our country and our nation, and which must therefore be discussed; I find the intolerance and aggressive stance displayed toward a lady, a deputy, who is a member of the family of the late leader—whom they claim raised them—simply because of the democratic criticisms she voiced, to be horrifying.

— Tuğrul Türkeş

In his statement, Türkeş emphasized that Ayyüce Türkeş had not committed any crime and had no organizational membership, criticizing the attitude of the MHP members.

At the very least, I would have expected one-tenth of the tolerance shown to terrorists to be shown to a lady and a deputy who, by their own admission, has committed no crime and does not even have any organizational membership.

— Tuğrul Türkeş

The tension in the commission has brought both the political debate surrounding the "framework law" and the polemic over the harsh tone between parties back to the agenda.
