Support for journalists from Ekrem İmamoğlu: Statement following the acquittal and release decision

TBB and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu shared a post on social media following the acquittal of Suat Toktaş and 4 other journalists who were being tried while in custody as part of the "expert witness" investigation launched against Halk TV. In his post, İmamoğlu stated, "Journalism is not a crime. Defending the public's right to receive information, and defending the rule of law and transparency, is not a crime; it is a right."

An acquittal decision was issued for Suat Toktaş and 4 other journalists who were being tried while in custody as part of the "expert witness" investigation launched against Halk TV.

'JOURNALISM IS NOT A CRIME'

İBB Mayor İmamoğlu stated in his social media post, "Journalism is not a crime. Defending the public's right to receive information, and defending the rule of law and transparency, is not a crime; it is a right. Everyone will defend this right to the end. Thanks to everyone who maintained an honorable stance during this process. Get well soon, HALK TV."

Following the release decision, it was learned that the Prosecutor's Office would appeal the court's decision.
