Surprise meeting between DEM Party and MHP! First statement released

Delegations from the DEM Party and the MHP met at the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) to discuss critical topics including Turkey's democratization process, a new constitution, the Imralı talks, and the proposed establishment of a parliamentary commission. It was emphasized that the 40-minute meeting took place in an "extremely constructive atmosphere."

A DEM Party delegation met today with an MHP delegation, which included MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli. In a statement released by the DEM Party following the 40-minute meeting, it was stated that 'the meeting took place in an extremely constructive atmosphere,' and included the following remarks: "The meeting, which involved a comprehensive exchange of views regarding developments in Turkey and the region, took place in an extremely constructive atmosphere. During the meeting, it was emphasized that the establishment of a fully authorized commission within the TBMM, as called for by Bahçeli, and the adoption of a method that ensures the active participation of political parties in this process, are of critical importance."

STEPS TO BE TAKEN FOR THE PROGRESS OF THE PROCESS WERE DISCUSSED

The statement included the following remarks:

"Our delegation, consisting of our Co-Chairs Tülay Hatimoğulları and Tuncer Bakırhan, and our Group Deputy Chairs Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit and Sezai Temelli, met with the MHP. The meeting with the MHP delegation, consisting of MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, Fethi Yıldız, and Celal Adan, lasted 40 minutes. The meeting, which involved a comprehensive exchange of views regarding developments in Turkey and the region, took place in an extremely constructive atmosphere. The meeting also addressed developments following the Call for Peace and Democratic Society, Turkey's democratization process, the meeting held by the DEM Party Imralı Delegation with Abdullah Öcalan, and the congress decisions announced by the PKK on May 12. Topics such as the steps that need to be taken for the progress of the process, the role the Parliament will undertake, the new judicial package, the commission expected to be established in Parliament, and the constitution were discussed. It was emphasized that the establishment of a fully authorized commission within the TBMM, as called for by Bahçeli, and the adoption of a method that ensures the active participation of political parties in this process, are of critical importance. In this context, our delegation will meet with the AK Party delegation at the TBMM tomorrow."
