CHP Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer was arrested and sent to prison as part of a terror investigation, and Istanbul Deputy Governor Can Aksoy was appointed as a trustee in his place.
HIS ABSENCE FROM THE RALLY DREW ATTENTION
While CHP Chairman Özgür Özel and members of parliament held a massive protest demonstration in Esenyurt yesterday evening, the stance of Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan, who did not attend the rally and remained silent on the appointment of a trustee to the municipality, drew attention.
"I HAVE NEVER MET HIM IN MY LIFE"
Bolu Mayor Özcan said in a live broadcast he attended on TV 100, "I did not want to tweet about this because I will not post a message of support on social media for someone I cannot vouch for. I want to examine the incident in all its aspects and will make a clear assessment. Ahmet Özer is an elected official, but I have never met him in my life. I would like to state that I believe in the presumption of innocence" he said.
