Tensions rise between Bülent Arınç and Melih Gökçek: 'It goes in one ear and out the other'

Former Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) Bülent Arınç answered questions regarding statements he made a long time ago during a broadcast he attended. When reminded specifically of his remarks about Melih Gökçek, Arınç noted that 10 years had passed since his statement that "Melih Gökçek sold Ankara parcel by parcel" and said he had not received any summons from prosecutors.
10 YEARS HAVE PASSED, NO PROSECUTOR HAS CALLED
Arınç expressed that despite the long time that has passed since his statements, no legal action has been taken. "Not a single prosecutor has called me to testify. If they call, I will go," said Arınç, stating that his remarks on this matter were clear and that he has not deviated from them in any way. He also added, "Everything is out in the open; there is nothing left to explain."
Bülent Arınç emphasized that social media offers an irresponsible environment. Stating that his past statement was watched by millions of people, Arınç made an analogy, saying, "That statement was watched a lot. I said, 'He shaved my beard, I cut off his arm.' A severed arm does not grow back, but a beard grows back thicker." He expressed that even though years have passed since that statement, he still holds the same view.

Bülent Arınç made very harsh statements regarding Melih Gökçek's name. Saying, "I do not even want to mention Melih Gökçek's name," he stated that he no longer feels the need to talk about the subject. When reminded of the statements made by Mansur Yavaş regarding the files, Arınç also touched upon the remark, "I sent nearly 100 files, no action was taken."
Melih Gökçek responded to Bülent Arınç's statements during a live broadcast he attended on TV100. Gökçek evaluated Arınç's words as an "operation to save Yavaş" and used the expression, "Bülent Arınç goes in one ear and out the other." Claiming that Arınç's statements were part of a plan, Gökçek stated that Arınç is making these statements today, just as he did in the past, because someone pushed his buttons.
