The Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) Plan and Budget Committee has begun deliberations on the 2025 budget for the Ministry of National Education.
The committee convened under the chairmanship of AKP Samsun Deputy Mehmet Muş.
TENSIONS RISE IN THE COMMITTEE
Before the meeting, CHP deputies showed the food parcels they had brought, stating that the Ministry of National Education has failed to distribute food parcels to students in schools.
Following this, a dispute broke out between AKP and CHP deputies.
The argument continued when Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin entered the committee room.
CHP deputies showed the food parcels to Minister Tekin, using the phrase, "These are the food parcels you do not distribute in schools, in case you want to take a look."
Minister Tekin responded, "CHP-run municipalities should also bring the money they allocate for concerts..."
AKP deputies reacted by saying, "Clean up the Gulf of İzmir first. İzmir stinks."
CHP İzmir Deputy Rahmi Aşkın Türeli stated that one-third of students go to school hungry, saying, "We have a demand for one free school lunch to be provided to our students. We will also submit a motion on this issue after the negotiations. We want you to support it."
In addition to the Ministry of National Education's 2025 budget, the committee will discuss the budgets and 2023 final accounts of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), the Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM), the Higher Education Quality Council, and universities, as well as the Court of Accounts reports for the Ministry, YÖK, ÖSYM, and universities.
