The 38th Ordinary Congress of the CHP! Will the new chairman be Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu or Özgür Özel?

03:00 According to the vote count results, Özgür Özel has become the new chairman of the CHP. Özel received 812 votes from the delegates, while Kılıçdaroğlu received 536. Compared to the first round, Özel received 130 more votes.

00:30: The voting, which moved to a second round because an absolute majority was not reached, has begun. Delegates will cast their votes until 02:30.

23:36  At the CHP congress, 1,366 convention delegates cast their votes for the chairmanship across 23 ballot boxes. In the first round of voting, Özgür Özel received 682 votes and Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu received 664.

In the second round, the candidate who receives 50% + 1 of the votes will be elected chairman.

The second round of voting will begin at 00:15.

23:14 The voting process for the delegates at the congress has been completed. Chants for Kılıçdaroğlu were heard in the hall.

21:00 The voting to determine the new leader of the CHP has begun. Delegates will cast their votes until 23:00. 

20:07: Kılıçdaroğlu stated that he wanted to make a speech following the accusations directed at him by Özgür Özel and took the stage. Kılıçdaroğlu reacted by saying, "I wish he had said what he told here to my face."

In his speech, which lasted approximately 10 minutes, Kılıçdaroğlu expressed his reaction to Özgür Özel.

In his rebuttal speech, which he made after requesting the floor, Kılıçdaroğlu attacked Özel with the following words:

He said he would be a mayoral candidate; he became a mayoral candidate. He said he would be an MP; he became an MP. And we were together? I wish they had voiced all those criticisms so we could have fought that struggle together. You say yes there, and you say no here!

The CHP Chairman ended his remarks by saying, "Do not worry at all, I am ready to account for every penny, we will account for it together. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart."

18:44: Since Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu did not wish to make a speech, Özgür Özel took the podium to deliver his speech in accordance with the party bylaws.

CHP Chairmanship Candidate Özgür Özel is speaking at the 38th Ordinary Congress. Özel stated, "The most important feature of our congresses is that they do not take orders from leaders or administrators. They assign them tasks. We shape not only our own party but also the country's politics."

Today, we have come here to the shade of our century-old great plane tree, whose branches wrap around every corner of our country. We are all together. We are those who count the goals of the youth's dreams for the future and carry their fears on our backs. We have written our nationalism not on street walls, but in the deep waters of the Aegean and the Mediterranean, and on the Five Finger Mountains of Cyprus.
