There are approximately 4 months left until the local elections on March 31, 2024. While alliance discussions continue on the opposition front, a surprise meeting will take place in Ankara today.

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş will visit IYI Party Chairperson Meral Akşener at 16:00.

The IYI Party had closed the doors to an alliance by announcing that it would field candidates in all 81 provinces in the local elections. Yavaş's visit to Akşener has stirred the Ankara political corridors.

THE REQUEST CAME FROM MANSUR YAVAŞ

According to the report by Eray Görgülü from T24; while it was learned that the meeting request came from Mansur Yavaş yesterday, according to the information obtained, Yavaş informed CHP Chairperson Özgür Özel before his meeting with Meral Akşener was reflected in the press. In the meeting where the cooperation process for the local elections will be discussed, it is expected that Mansur Yavaş will ask for Meral Akşener's support in Ankara even if there is no cooperation in other provinces.

RESIGNATIONS CAME ONE AFTER ANOTHER

Akşener, who had criticized the CHP following the presidential elections, had announced that they would field candidates in 81 provinces, and this decision by Akşener was accepted by a majority vote in the party's General Administrative Board. While some provincial chairs who opposed this decision were forced to resign, Bahadır Erdem, who voted against the decision, also resigned in recent days.

ÖZGÜR ÖZEL CONTINUED HIS CALL FOR COOPERATION

On the other hand, Özgür Özel, who was elected Chairperson at the 38th Ordinary Congress of the CHP, continued his messages to the IYI Party regarding cooperation. In his statement, Özel had used the expression, “An old friend does not become an enemy. I do not find it right to build a policy based on making each other lose. If the IYI Party approaches this issue constructively, which I think the personal rapport between Meral Hanım and me will contribute to this.”

CHP EXECUTIVES: THE COOPERATION PROCESS IN ISTANBUL AND ANKARA HAS NOT CLOSED

On the other hand, evaluating the Yavaş-Akşener meeting, CHP executives pointed out that the cooperation process in Istanbul and Ankara has not yet closed. Suggesting that if there is no cooperation and therefore Istanbul and Ankara are lost, the IYI Party will fall into the position of the party that caused the loss, the CHP executives made the assessment, “Following today's meeting, the IYI Party and Meral Akşener will reconsider their decisions for Istanbul and Ankara.”
