The new mayor of Manisa Metropolitan Municipality has been determined
Following the passing of Manisa Metropolitan Mayor Ferdi Zeyrek, Akhisar Mayor Besim Dutlulu was elected as the new mayor in the vote held.

In the election held today at the Manisa Metropolitan Municipality, a new mayor was elected to replace Ferdi Zeyrek, who lost his life after being electrocuted. Akhisar Mayor Besim Dutlulu became the Manisa Metropolitan Mayor with the votes of the council members.
The Republican People's Party (CHP), which holds the majority in the Manisa Metropolitan Municipal Council, nominated Besim Dutlulu.
While the CHP has 61 members, the AKP has 15, the MHP has 11, and the IYI Party has 1 member in the council. The AKP announced that they would not field a candidate in memory of Ferdi Zeyrek.
During the election meeting, photographs of the late Mayor Zeyrek were displayed, and emotional moments occurred as the clerk read the agenda. The CHP Group stated, "It is very difficult to speak in this Council today. The people of Manisa remember him; may his soul rest in peace." The AKP Group expressed their condolences by saying, "We have no candidate out of respect for our late Mayor Ferdi."
The fact that the CHP secured the majority in the March 31, 2024 Local Administration Elections was also influential in this vote. While the people of Manisa are experiencing deep mourning following Zeyrek's passing, municipal operations are expected to continue with the election of the new mayor.
