The son of 'Super Governor' Recep Yazıcıoğlu has become a mayoral candidate for that party

Mehmet Kemal Yazıcıoğlu, the son of Recep Yazıcıoğlu, known as the 'Super Governor,' has become a mayoral candidate for the MHP in Tokat.

As the country heads toward local elections, political parties continue their candidate selection processes.

Mehmet Kemal Yazıcıoğlu, the son of Recep Yazıcıoğlu—known to Turkey as the 'Super Governor'—has submitted his candidacy application for the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) in the Tokat mayoral race.

MHP Tokat Deputy Yücel Bulut announced Mehmet Kemal Yazıcıoğlu's candidacy on his social media account by sharing a photograph taken with MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli.

In his post, Bulut stated, "The precious son of our unforgettable Governor of Tokat, our late elder Recep Yazıcıoğlu, and our valued brother Mehmet Kemal Yazıcıoğlu has been received by our Chairman and has completed his application for the Tokat Mayoral Candidacy."

The MHP had previously announced 55 of its candidates, including those for 12 provinces and 2 metropolitan municipalities. The Tokat candidate has not yet been officially announced.

WHO IS RECEP YAZICIOĞLU?

Recep Yazıcıoğlu was born on June 2, 1948, in the Köprübaşı district of Trabzon. After graduating from Ankara University Faculty of Law, Yazıcıoğlu's first post was in Aydın in 1968. Having served as a deputy district governor there for a period, Yazıcıoğlu later held district governorship positions in various parts of the country.

Yazıcıoğlu was appointed Governor of Tokat in 1984. As the youngest governor in Turkey at the time, Yazıcıoğlu served there for approximately 5 years. Selected as the "Bureaucrat of the Year" for his significant work in education and health, Yazıcıoğlu was appointed governor of Aydın, where he had previously served as a deputy district governor, in 1989.

Devoting intense effort to the city's agriculture and economy, Yazıcıoğlu particularly desired the optimal use of geothermal energy, an important asset for the city. Before he could realize his project regarding geothermal energy, Yazıcıoğlu was appointed to Erzincan in 1991. Making a name for himself in Erzincan as well, Yazıcıoğlu put forth great effort in healing the wounds of citizens following the 1992 earthquake. Governor Yazıcıoğlu won the great affection of the local people by spearheading the construction of a bridge that had not been built for 30 years.

Following his 9-year tenure in Erzincan, Governor Yazıcıoğlu was appointed as a central governor in 1999 and then as the Governor of Denizli in 2003. Recep Yazıcıoğlu lost his life on September 8, 2003, as a result of a traffic accident in Ankara. Tens of thousands of people attended the funeral ceremony of Yazıcıoğlu, who was laid to rest in the Söke district of Aydın.
