Three CHP mayors arrested, acting mayors elected: Gaziosmanpaşa officially passes to AKP

Following investigations into CHP mayors conducted under the instruction of the Ministry of Interior, acting mayors are being elected today in the respective municipal councils to replace Avcılar Mayor Utku Caner Çaykara, Büyükçekmece Mayor Hasan Akgün, and Gaziosmanpaşa Mayor Hakan Bahçetepe, who were arrested.
VOTING PROCESS BEGAN AT 10:00 AM
Council members in all three districts went to the polls at 10:00 AM for the acting mayor elections. Voting has concluded at the Gaziosmanpaşa Municipality. Election procedures are still ongoing in Avcılar and Büyükçekmece.
PEOPLE'S ALLIANCE HAS THE ADVANTAGE IN GAZİOSMANPAŞA
The Gaziosmanpaşa Municipal Council consists of 18 AKP members, 17 CHP members, and 3 MHP members. The council arithmetic gives the People's Alliance candidate an advantage.
In the election, the CHP nominated Deputy Mayor Murat Topaloğlu, while the AKP nominated Eray Karadeniz. Voting has concluded, but the official results have not yet been announced.
CHP MAJORITY IN AVCILAR AND BÜYÜKÇEKMECE
The Avcılar Municipal Council has 24 CHP members, 10 AKP members, 2 MHP members, and 1 BBP member. The election of the CHP candidate is considered certain. In the Büyükçekmece Municipality, there are 23 CHP, 12 AKP, and 2 MHP council members.
The CHP nominated Ahmet Şahin for acting mayor in Büyükçekmece. The AKP's candidate was announced as Mustafa Yazıcı.
This election process, which began after the arrested mayors were removed from office as part of an investigation into charges such as "rigging bids" and "bribery," is being evaluated as a sign of a new era in Istanbul politics.
GAZİOSMANPAŞA PASSED TO AKP
In Gaziosmanpaşa, there are 18 AKP, 17 CHP, and 3 MHP members. Following the election, AKP candidate Eray Karadeniz was elected as the Acting Mayor of Gaziosmanpaşa in the third round.
The CHP is expected to nominate Ahmet Şahin for the Büyükçekmece Acting Mayor position. The AKP's candidate for Büyükçekmece Acting Mayor is Mustafa Yazıcı.
