TIP Chairman Bas announces TBMM decision, calls for early elections: 'We will not grant legitimacy'

Workers' Party of Turkey (TIP) Chairman Erkan Bas announced that his party's deputies will not attend the special session for the opening of the 3rd Legislative Year of the 28th term. Bas further stated, "We will not grant even a shred of legitimacy to those who trample on the will of the people in the very place where that will should be manifested."

TIP Chairman Erkan Bas, along with TIP Istanbul deputies Ahmet Şık and Saliha Sera Kadıgil, held a press conference at the Parliament.

'WE REFUSE TO BE PART OF THE MASQUERADE'

Reminding that the Parliament will open today, Bas stated the following:

"We refuse to listen to the lies and fairy tales of Tayyip Erdoğan, who acts as if everything is normal, opens and closes the Parliament at his whim, prevents the most important agendas of the country from being discussed in the Parliament while passing whatever laws he wants, fails to implement even the laws they themselves have enacted, and tramples on the current Constitution. The event to be held here today is not the opening of a people's parliament or anything of the sort. It is a masquerade. We refuse to be part of this masquerade. And because we refuse to be part of this masquerade, we will not attend the General Assembly. We will not grant even a shred of legitimacy to those who trample on the will of the people in the very place where that will should be manifested."

EARLY ELECTION STATEMENT

Also calling for early elections, Bas said, "We want the stance shown by TIP at the opening of the new legislative year to be clear and understandable. We say, 'We are fed up with lies and fairy tales, elections now.' This is the only sentence of TIP at the opening of the new legislative year."
