Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) Chairman Erkan Baş stated that following his meeting with Hatay MP Can Atalay in Silivri, he held discussions with the chairmen of political parties represented in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). In a statement made after these meetings, Baş drew attention to Can Atalay's situation.
Erkan Baş said, "Can Atalay is a member of parliament. There is no final conviction against him. The action taken in the TBMM is legally null and void. Therefore, we call on the Speaker of the TBMM to do what is necessary regarding this matter."
Stating that Atalay's personal rights must be restored, Baş added, "He must be released, take his oath, and be enabled to begin his duties. The responsibility for taking these steps rests on the shoulders of Numan Kurtulmuş as the Speaker of the TBMM."
Erkan Baş further added that if this does not happen, they will take the necessary steps to call the TBMM to an extraordinary session together with all other political parties.
