"WE INVITE EVERYONE TO BE A PART OF THIS LONG MARCH"
The press statement made is as follows:
"Dear citizens, esteemed members of the press; our MP Can Atalay, who was elected by the will of the people of Hatay in the May 14 elections, is still a prisoner. While he should have been released on the day he was elected to begin his parliamentary duties for the earthquake-stricken people of Hatay, the sentence he received in the Gezi Park trial was upheld by the Supreme Court of Appeals a week ago. After the Constitutional Court convened to evaluate our MP Can Atalay's individual application, it delegated the task of expressing an opinion to the Constitutional Court General Assembly. The General Assembly will convene tomorrow, Thursday, October 12, to express its opinion regarding his detention status. We are announcing to the four corners of the world the Freedom March, which our Chairman Erkan Baş started from Hatay and will end in Ankara, against the unlawful and illegitimate sentences given to Can Atalay and the Gezi prisoners at the end of the trial, and against the captivity into which Turkey has been pushed, and we invite everyone to be a part of this long march.
"THEY ARE A HANDFUL, WE ARE MILLIONS!"
Gezi is the resistance of millions in Turkey, the Gezi Resistance is the pride of our history, and we defend Gezi. We want the freedom of all our friends who are held prisoner in the Gezi trial. We warn the Constitutional Court before the opinion it will announce tomorrow to consider previous precedents regarding imprisoned MPs and not to commit a new injustice. We invite all our friends, the millions who created Gezi, to join the Freedom March and to struggle for the release of Can Atalay and all Gezi prisoners. Our march is the march of the laborers, women, and youth who are exploited every day by those in the Palace. Our march is a march for freedom for our Hatay MP Can Atalay. If you take one step, we will have taken millions of steps. Because they are a handful, we are millions!"
