TKP General Secretary Kemal Okuyan: 'Turkey cannot be governed this way, initiative must be taken'
TKP General Secretary Kemal Okuyan evaluated the latest developments in Syria and Turkey's foreign policy. Kemal Okuyan stated, "There can be no unity of Syria with HTS. Europe is arming itself, and a role of providing manpower is being assigned to Turkey. Turkey cannot be governed by salvation recipes based on individuals; initiative must be taken."

The latest situation in Syria, the point reached in the resolution process, the "EU army," and Turkey's foreign policy were discussed on the program "Communist Perspective" with Mert Doğan and Kemal Okuyan, broadcast on soL TV.
Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) General Secretary Kemal Okuyan began the program by answering Mert Doğan's question, "Are we being governed by a 'mastermind,' and what is meant by a mastermind?"
Kemal Okuyan said, "Those who govern the world make calculations to increase their profits, but there is no 'mastermind' that determines everything. There is no 'intelligent' process at play anyway. Capitalism is an irrational system."
Okuyan also reminded that "there is, of course, a hidden face to states and politics," noting that strategic calculations are made and that it has become common to have irregular actions carried out through covert mechanisms.
Summary of the 'New European security architecture': Europe is arming itself
Addressing the "security" debate in Europe, Okuyan spoke as follows:
"There is an approach that the NATO alliance has completely broken. One needs to be a bit cautious, but there is a serious 'European army' debate in Europe. The EU aims to be ambitious economically and in its extended political and military aspects in order to become a powerful organization again.
For example, it is always misunderstood in Turkey and the world; England is viewed as the US's Trojan horse in Europe. This is partially true. In fact, as an imperialist country, it is many times more experienced than the US and is a country with its own agenda.
The summary of the 'new European security architecture' is that 'Europe is arming itself.' There are two nuclear powers in Europe: France and England. Well, we say arming, but where will this budget go?
Since 2020, with the war in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, the use of drones in wars has increased. Then, at the beginning of the Ukraine war, Bayraktar's UAVs were effective. Subsequently, small and cheap drones have increasingly developed. This is a new phenomenon, and even large UAVs have become unnecessary. Currently, the arms industry does not know what to do. The arms market was based on expensive products like fighter jets, but drones are rendering some of these dysfunctional."
Stating that drone production has brought new actors to the fore, Okuyan expressed that this situation has disrupted the calculations of major arms monopolies.
The danger of nuclear weapons
The TKP General Secretary said that along with drones, nuclear weapons have also gained great value in the world.
"Germany will make the critical decision. They may choose to possess nuclear weapons, which is not good," said Okuyan, adding that one of Europe's constraints is manpower. He noted that Europe is assigning a role to Turkey in this sense.
'Russia left Syria too early'
Answering the question, "Will the US-Russia connection lead to a solution in Ukraine?" with "It could," Okuyan said, "It is very clear that Russia left Syria early, it did not push it, against a possible agreement in Ukraine. However, an element like Iran was added to the situation. Russia does not want Iran to receive a heavy blow. Therefore, Russia is also making a great effort for Iran and the US to reach an agreement," he said.
The Alawite massacre in Syria and the SDF-HTS agreement: 'They have legitimized themselves'
Kemal Okuyan also commented on the agreement between the HTS administration and the SDF, and the fact that the agreement coincided with an Alawite massacre. Stating that the claim that the Alawite minority held power during the Bashar al-Assad era is not true, Okuyan said that Alawites also suffered from the regime's problems.
Expressing that the Alawite massacre began immediately under HTS rule, Okuyan said, "There is a major crime at hand." Regarding the agreement signed with the SDF during this exact period, Okuyan said, "There are no details, but the agreement has an important feature: A region has registered its own legitimacy. A regional element has legitimized itself. I do not think the AKP has digested the agreement either," he said.
Kemal Okuyan said, "There can be no unity of Syria with HTS. HTS is a structure controlled from the outside. It is dependent on the US, England, and Israel. The unity of Syria cannot be achieved with the draft constitution that has emerged. The Druze, for example, immediately refused."
'Turkey cannot be governed this way, initiative must be taken'
Speaking about the "new process" being carried out under the heading of the Kurdish issue in Turkey, Okuyan stated that there is no consistent logic at play. Noting that new difficulties have been added to the previously foreseen difficulties of the process, Okuyan said, "There is too much zigzagging between the actors, which means there is a problem," and said that one should not be in a hurry to draw conclusions.
Okuyan emphasized that the link between the process and the "New Constitution and elections" cannot be denied, but that there should be other elements involved in such an important and regional issue.
Saying, "There is a long time until 2027 and the process could explode," Kemal Okuyan expressed the following:
"The influence of an important political movement that is effective on the Kurdish population is already being reduced. There is no disarmament yet. But Barzani made a very fast entry. The Barzani line is increasing its influence in Turkey. Furthermore, there are actors with a more Islamist character who are increasing their influence within the Kurdish population. These may not be part of the AKP's strategy in harmony as is thought.
Together with all our working citizens and our people, Turkey needs to stand up on a different basis to eliminate the negatives that may arise here. Exactly now. Turkey cannot be governed this way. Initiative must be taken, but salvation recipes based on individuals are wrong because they can be easily sidelined. They are easily defeated."
