TKP: We will not allow more of our youth to be sacrificed for imperialist ambitions

Following the martyrs in the Pençe-Kilit operation region, the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) released a statement titled 'Security threat: Ottomanism, Islamism, Kurdish nationalism, Turkish nationalism, and Imperialism'.

In the painful news from the Pençe-Kilit Operation region, 9 of our soldiers were martyred as a result of a clash between soldiers and terrorists attempting to infiltrate the base area.

The Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) has released a statement titled "Security threat: Ottomanism, Islamism, Kurdish nationalism, Turkish nationalism, and Imperialism."

The statement included the following: "This bloody game, which disregards the territorial integrity of other countries, is being put into effect under the pretext of Turkey's security. They want to draw the borders necessary for our country's security through the lands of other countries."

"IS TURKEY ANY SAFER AS A RESULT OF THE CROSS-BORDER OPERATIONS THAT HAVE CONTINUED FOR SO MANY YEARS?"

The statement released by the TKP is as follows:

"On the evening of January 12, many soldiers lost their lives and were wounded. The attack took place outside, not within, Turkey's borders.

We know that the real reason for Turkey's military presence in foreign lands, primarily in Syria and Iraq, is the insatiable greed for profit of the capitalist class.

And we also know that the capitalist class, in order to satisfy its expansionist desires, has seized an unprecedented opportunity through the AKP, has been able to revise the fundamental references of foreign policy with a Neo-Ottomanist approach in line with settling scores with the Republic, and has thus dared to create the ground to justify its military presence in foreign countries.

This bloody game, which disregards the territorial integrity of other countries, is being put into effect under the pretext of Turkey's security. They want to draw the borders necessary for our country's security through the lands of other countries.

We ask: Is Turkey any safer as a result of the cross-border operations that have continued for so many years?

Has this foreign policy stance been able to protect Turkey's border security, the peace and prosperity of the people, city centers, squares, and streets from exploding bombs?

"IT IS MANDATORY FOR THE GOVERNMENT TO END ITS MILITARY PRESENCE ABROAD"

On the contrary, these operations, whose goals are vague, durations are uncertain, contents and details are hidden from the public, and which are trapped in militarily unfavorable conditions, have been carried to a point that disregards the territorial integrity of neighboring countries as well as the safety of the soldiers. Turkey cannot base its own security on its presence in an area where numerous regional and international powers are engaged in fierce competition and conflict; security is not achieved this way!

Turkey's military presence in foreign countries creates space for various agents of imperialism, jihadist groups, and the mindset that views the existence of the Republic of Turkey as illegitimate to hold on and continue their activities in Turkey. Just as it is necessary to kick out all foreign military bases and personnel, it is equally mandatory for the government to end its military presence abroad.

Where Turkey's Iraq and Syria borders begin and end has now become uncertain; in fact, these borders have been erased.

The source of the attack is clear; the attacks are claimed by the PKK. Looking at this picture, the approach reduced to 'counter-terrorism' in its crudest form insists on ignoring the consequences of fighting the PKK in other countries' lands for years. Furthermore, such a perspective does not allow for addressing the wrong domestic and foreign policy, relations with the US, Turkey's NATO membership, or the injustices and inequalities in Turkey.

"THE PKK MUST BE QUESTIONED AND CONDEMNED"

Today, the PKK must be questioned and condemned for its political strategy, goals, allies, and methods. The well-known practices of the AKP government and the injustices that Kurds have suffered from the past to the present cannot cover up this fact.

The political power, which is determined not to take any responsibility for the loss of soldiers, is also obligated to explain where and why our youth are being deployed. We will not allow Turkey's grave problems to be put on the back burner and hidden from sight under the pretext of 'counter-terrorism'.

In Turkey, those who fight against the Republic are on one hand settling scores with the Treaty of Lausanne and referencing the Treaty of Sèvres and operating accordingly, while on the other hand, they are going back beyond Sèvres to the Abdülhamids and hiding behind tales of being a 'regional power'. The partnerships of those who fight against the Republic are clearly Neo-Ottomanism.

Broad segments of society are being pushed into false polarizations such as Turkish nationalism, Islamism, and Kurdish nationalism, and the Republic of Turkey is being dragged toward disintegration.

The cost of the Left engaging with, drawing closer to, or showing understanding for any of these lines in one way or another will be very high.

The expansionist reflex of Turkish capitalism, blended with Neo-Ottomanist ideology, has become a hypocritical 'security' doctrine that legitimizes Turkey's interference in the internal affairs and sovereign rights of other countries.

"ENOUGH IS ENOUGH"

No country's security can be physically ensured from within the borders of another country. Beyond being a matter of principle, this stance corresponds exactly to the concrete reality, and Turkey's military presence in Syria and Iraq threatens our country's security. The AKP government hides from our people what it means for Turkey to maintain its military presence in these two countries without an agreement with their governments.

The real source of the military presence in foreign countries, justified by national security, is the profit-seeking of large companies in Turkey. Today, a significant portion of the bosses who make big money in the Kurdish region of Iraq have 'nationalist' tendencies. For Turkish firms that will want to get a share in the reconstruction of Syria tomorrow, it will not be Turkey's or our people's security that is decisive, but the filling of their own coffers.

Enough is enough! Turkey is too valuable to be surrendered to two, or even three, mentalities that position themselves as if they are against each other but actually feed one another.

We will not allow more of our youth to be sacrificed for imperialist ambitions, nor will we allow the Turkish society to be dragged into a process that could be very dangerous by Turkish nationalist, Kurdish nationalist, and Islamist factions, nor will we allow nationalist rhetoric developed with demagoguery to alienate the Turkish society from the facts!

"WHAT WE MUST DESTROY IS THIS ROTTEN EXPLOITATIVE ORDER"

We will change the exploitative order that dominates Turkey. However, we will never allow the Republic of Turkey to be declared illegitimate or to be viewed as a political entity that should be eliminated.

Today, all Kurdish nationalist, Turkish nationalist, and Islamist orientations in Turkey are jointly contributing to a process that will result in the loss of the legitimacy of the Republic of Turkey.

What falls to us here is to defend the values that will unite the whole country and our working people, excluding a very small minority of this country, the exploiters and the parasites. The TKP will speak out in this direction and will not be part of the destruction team that threatens our people and our country. What we must destroy is this rotten exploitative order.
