Ramis Uzun, who served as mayor in Beşikdüzü, the only Republican People's Party (CHP) municipality in Trabzon, announced that he has resigned from his party due to the nomination of Cahit Erdem for the local elections to be held on March 31.
"THIS APPOINTMENT IS UNACCEPTABLE"
Holding a press conference at the Büyükliman Journalists Association, Uzun said, "It was stated that a primary would be held with 5 candidates by the decision of our Headquarters, and that a satisfaction survey would also be conducted. I saw that an appointment was made without a satisfaction survey being conducted and without me being informed. An appointment made through the imposition of our biased provincial and district organizations, without even going to a primary and without conducting a public opinion poll, is unacceptable."
"DID I SAY NO WHEN THEY SAID A PUBLIC OPINION POLL WOULD BE CONDUCTED?"
Stating that the appointment made was a great disrespect to party members and the public, Uzun said, "Did they tell me a primary would be held and I didn't enter it? Did they tell me a public opinion poll would be conducted between me and the candidate who would emerge from the primary, and did I say no? Without any of these being done, a person who was accepted by only 35 percent of our members and rejected by the rest was declared the candidate through various tricks. This situation is unacceptable," he said.
Describing Cahit Erdem's appointment as a candidate as a "conspiracy," Uzun announced his resignation by saying, "I condemn this conspiracy against myself, our members, and our people, and I am resigning from the Republican People's Party, of which I am honored to be a member."
RAMİS UZUN'S MAYORALTY PROCESS
Ramis Uzun, who won the Beşikdüzü Municipality for the CHP with 60.55 percent of the vote in the 2019 Local Elections, did not participate in the primary held last week to determine his party's mayoral candidate. In the primary where Mehmet Yıldızlar received 133 votes, Şakir Yenigün 115, Ekrem Sezgin 33, and Ozan Karagöz 31, Cahit Erdem, who received 229 votes, was declared the CHP's mayoral candidate for Beşikdüzü.
