The Ministry of Interior announced that Tunceli Governor Bülent Tekbıyıkoğlu has been appointed to replace DEM Party Tunceli Mayor Cevdet Konak, and Ovacık District Governor Hüseyin Şamil Sözen has been appointed to replace CHP Ovacık Mayor Mustafa Sarıgül.

Tunceli Governor Tekbıyıkoğlu, who was appointed as the trustee to replace Konak, arrived at the municipal building.

On the other hand, Ovacık District Governor Hüseyin Şamil Sözen, who was appointed as the "Acting Mayor" to replace Ovacık Mayor Mustafa Sarıgül—who was removed from office after receiving a prison sentence for "being a member of the PKK/KCK terrorist organization"—also went to the municipal building and began his duties.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Following the 6-year and 3-month prison sentence handed down to Tunceli Mayor Cevdet Konak in the case he was tried in, he was removed from office by the Ministry of Interior, and Tunceli Governor Bülent Tekbıyıkoğlu was appointed as acting mayor in his place. Meanwhile, the CHP Mayor of Tunceli's Ovacık district, Mustafa Sarıgül, who was tried in the same case, was also removed from office, and District Governor Hüseyin Şamil Sözen was appointed in his place.
