MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli’s remarks, “How will the status gap of İmralı, which serves a terror-free Turkey, be eliminated?” have sparked controversy. The most notable reaction to this statement came from İYİ Party Deputy Chair Ayyüce Türkeş. Türkeş used harsh language against Bahçeli on her personal social media account.

"HE IS THE MURDERER OF 55 THOUSAND PEOPLE, A TRAITOROUS TERRORIST LEADER"

In her post, Ayyüce Türkeş stated, “Öcalan’s status is quite clear and obvious. He is the murderer of 55,000 people, a traitorous terrorist leader.”

Continuing her remarks in the post, Türkeş said:

“The solution: is for him to wait for his end in the hole he has crawled into. Let me remind you, he was sentenced to death and was saved from execution by your hand; he is living in İmralı, and that kindness is enough for him! Final word: There can be no such sentence as ‘İmralı serving Turkey’!! Are you talking about two separate states!!!! What a meaningless definition! It is clear who and what the terrorist leader imprisoned on that island serves. The only country he does not serve is TURKEY, and the only nation is the TURKISH Nation!!!”
