İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay’s switch to the AKP has sparked debate in the WhatsApp group where municipal council members are present. According to shared screenshots, a council member sent a Spotify link for the band Duman’s song titled “Dönek” (Turncoat) to the group.
The council member expressed their reaction by adding the note, “The lyrics translate my feelings and thoughts,” under the post. The song is featured on Duman’s 1999 album “Eski Köprünün Altında.”
Following the post, it was observed that Cemil Tugay changed the group settings. According to the system notification, the option “Only admins can send messages to the group” was activated.
It was stated that the settings were changed again shortly after, and all members were allowed to send messages. Upon this, a council member reacted by saying, “Mr. Tugay, you are one way... Then another... You changed within minutes... Are you yourself?”
