Union of Turkish Bar Associations calls on TBMM regarding Can Atalay
The Union of Turkish Bar Associations has requested that the Constitutional Court's ruling, which declared the revocation of Can Atalay's parliamentary membership "null and void," be presented to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) General Assembly. The Bar Association demanded that all consequences regarding Atalay's parliamentary status be implemented and that his detention be ended.

The Union of Turkish Bar Associations has issued a statement regarding the Constitutional Court's ruling that the revocation of Can Atalay's parliamentary membership is "null and void."
In the petition submitted to the Speaker of the TBMM under the signature of Bar Association President Erinç Sağkan, it was requested that the Constitutional Court's decision, published in the Official Gazette on August 1, 2024, be read in the TBMM General Assembly and that the General Assembly be notified that the previous action is "null and void."
The petition emphasized that all consequences tied to Can Atalay's parliamentary status must be implemented.
Furthermore, it was stated that it is constitutionally impossible for a member of parliament to be held in detention, and it was expressed that it is a constitutional responsibility for the Speaker of the TBMM to take the necessary initiatives to end this situation and to follow the process.
