CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır addressed citizens who gathered in front of the Şişli Municipality following the suspension of Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan by the Ministry of Interior. Başarır addressed the Şişli District Governor, who was appointed as the trustee to the municipality.
CALL TO "NOT BE A PARTY TO THIS CRIME"
In his statement, Başarır described the appointment of the district governor as unlawful, saying, "We absolutely do not want the district governor here. Do not be a party to this illegality, to this injustice. Do not be a party to this crime."
"DO NOT SURRENDER IT"
Başarır also called on citizens to protect their municipality:
"This is the municipality of the people of Şişli. Do not give this place up, do not surrender it."
