Koşuyolu Neighborhood Mukhtar Eylem Bilir was targeted for detention by police while trying to pick up her daughter from the May 1st Labor and Solidarity Day celebrations. CHP Women's Branch Chair Asu Kaya participated in the march in Istanbul's Mecidiyeköy for May 1st Labor and Solidarity Day.

''SHE WILL STAY HERE WITH ME''

Reacting to the attempt to detain Eylem Bilir, Kaya said, "I will not give up the Koşuyolu Mukhtar. She will stay here with me. She will stay as long as she can, as long as she can endure. She has committed no crime. They want to detain this woman who came looking for her 17-year-old child."

"The police started pulling and dragging her to take her into custody. We locked arms with the women there. I suddenly hugged Eylem. They tried to pull her away. I didn't let go, I said 'Hug me.' 60-70 police officers surrounded us. We held our ground, we resisted, and we got out together!"
