Following the arrest of Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer and the appointment of a trustee in his place, the Republican People's Party (CHP) moved its camp in Antalya to Istanbul.
Before the TBMM Group Work and Evaluation Meeting, CHP Diyarbakır MP Sezgin Tanrıkulu spoke to 12punto.
'IF YOU DO THIS WITH METHODS CONTRARY TO THE CONSTITUTION, THIS IS A COUP'
Tanrıkulu said the following:
"This is a direct coup against the will of the people. A coup is not only carried out with tanks and cannons; if you are overturning the results of the ballot box using such unlawful methods that are contrary to the Constitution, then this is a coup.
'BECAUSE OF HIS KURDISH IDENTITY...'
Furthermore, let me be very clear: Even though this is Istanbul and the Esenyurt district, Ahmet Özer has been subjected to this operation because of his Kurdish identity.
The message sent is: 'Even if you are a professor, even if you are elected, and even if you have such an academic background, we will not allow this.'"
