İYİ Party candidate calls Karamollaoğlu 'degenerate': Reaction from Saadet Party

İYİ Party's Sivas Mayoral Candidate Mehmet Ceylan used the term degenerate for Saadet Party Chairman Karamollaoğlu during his speech.

İYİ Party Chairwoman Meral Akşenertraveled to Sivas to announce her party's mayoral and district mayoral candidates. During the program held at the Fidan Yazıcıoğlu Cultural Center, Akşener announced that Mehmet Ceylan is her party's Sivas Mayoral Candidate for the local elections to be held on March 31.

Ceylan used the term "degenerate" for Saadet Party Chairman Temel Karamollaoğlu, who is a former Mayor of Sivas.

"IF THIS ISN'T DEGENERACY, WHAT IS?"

Ceylan used the following expressions in his speech from the podium:

"That National View (Milli Görüş) mentality, known as the AK Party order, won the mayoral election here in 1989. There is a person named Temel Karamollaoğlu, my dear Chairwoman, who, only two or three months into his term here, said, 'The Republic was founded here and it will be destroyed here.' If this isn't degeneracy, what is? They tell me not to speak so harshly. How can I not speak? I swear by God, even if it leads me to the gallows, I will speak, my dear Chairwoman. I hope I don't cause you any trouble."

It was noted that Akşener laughed after the term "degenerate" was used for Karamollaoğlu.

REACTION FROM SAADET PARTY

Saadet Party Spokesperson Birol Aydın responded to Mehmet Ceylan's remarks.

In a statement on his social media account, Aydın stated that Karamollaoğlu was being slandered, saying, "We have much to say to those who work with the government's agency and act according to the government's agenda; however, speaking in the face of such dishonor is a waste of words."

"WE LEAVE IT TO THE PEOPLE OF SIVAS AND OUR DEAR NATION"

Aydın's statement is as follows:

"The National View (Milli Görüş) is one of the most important founding wills of our Republic. The municipal approach demonstrated by our Chairman, Mr. Temel Karamollaoğlu, in Sivas, which is still remembered with kindness and longing today, is proof of this! We consider it degeneracy to make a base slander against the Chairman of a political party with whom we were coalition partners in the years 96-97 and with whom we collaborated just a few months ago! We have much to say to those who work with the government's agency and act according to the government's agenda; however, speaking in the face of such dishonor is a waste of words! We leave the insolence of the individual who is the İYİ Party Sivas Mayoral Candidate, targeting our Chairman with an obvious lie, first to the citizens who support the İYİ Party, then to the esteemed people of Sivas and our dear nation."
