The Strategic Partnership Framework Agreement in the Field of Energy and Natural Resources between the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the Government of the United Arab Emirates, and the privileges granted to the Arabs within the scope of this agreement, have been criticized by many segments of society.
One figure who made striking observations and criticisms on this subject was İYİ Party Balıkesir Deputy Turhan Çömez.
Çömez issued warnings regarding this legislative proposal, which bears the signature of AKP's Numan Kurtulmuş and is full of privileges, and explained why he would vote 'no' when this bill is presented to Parliament.
Here are those statements by Turhan Çömez:
Lands and passports were given, and now all of the country's energy assets will be handed over to the Arabs.
Renewable energy sources, storage and transmission projects, thermal power plants, underground resources, thermal energy sources, nuclear power plant projects....
Everything will belong to the Arabs.
Competing projects will not be permitted.
As much land as they wish will be allocated to the Arabs for the implementation of the projects.
They will be told, 'Don't worry about permits, licenses, and EIA reports, we will handle them all.'
If there is a dispute, they will not go to court; the problem will be solved through consultation(!).
Alas for my poor country.
My hand will be raised to say 'no' when the bill arrives.
