Municipal Council Member Aydemir had said 'the women who die are also to blame': AKP moves for permanent expulsion

While Turkey is shaken every day by news of a new femicide, scandalous statements have come one after another from AKP members.

AKP Bayraklı Municipal Council Member Latif Aydemir made the statement, "I exempt some of our ladies, but in many cases, including some women, the victims are just as guilty as the perpetrators."

Aydemir said the following:

"I exempt our ladies, our women, but in many cases, including some women, the victims are just as guilty as the perpetrators. This needs to be examined well because people—look, I said I exempt most of our ladies—so many people right now, in places without cameras, if a tiny scratch is made, we would find ourselves at the police station."

Aydemir has been referred to the disciplinary board with a demand for permanent expulsion.

Violence is unacceptable in any form or manner.

AKP'S OKTAY HAD ALSO TARGETED THE MURDERED GIRLS

Işıl İlgin Oktay, an AKP member of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Council, had also made scandalous statements regarding Semih Çelik's brutal murder of İkbal Uzuner and Ayşenur Halil. Defending the withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention, Oktay had said, "Information that our murdered children had a neurotic dating relationship and that our daughter İkbal had even attempted suicide about a year ago has entered the investigation file. Therefore, the claim that policies against women were damaged by the withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention is completely false."
