On the second day of the vote recount in Istanbul's Gaziosmanpaşa district, 600 out of 1,030 ballot boxes have been recounted. CHP mayoral candidate Hakan Bahçetepe remains ahead of his AKP rival.
Following the March 31 Local Elections, the District Election Board decided to recount the votes as a result of objections filed by the AKP against the ballot box committee reports and decisions. The counting process, which began yesterday morning at 11:00 AM, was paused at 11:00 PM. The ballot boxes were reopened this morning at 11:00 AM.
THERE ARE 1,030 BALLOT BOXES
According to the CHP's system, CHP mayoral candidate Hakan Bahçetepe finished the election 1,040 votes ahead of AKP mayoral candidate Hasan Tahsin Usta. So far, 600 of the 1,030 ballot boxes in Gaziosmanpaşa have been recounted. The margin has narrowed to 900 in the recount. The counting of the remaining 430 ballot boxes is ongoing.
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
According to the March 31 local election results, CHP mayoral candidate Hakan Bahçetepe received 40.45 percent of the vote, while AK Party mayoral candidate Hasan Tahsin Usta came in second with 40.12 percent. 12punto.com.tr followed the recount that began yesterday morning on-site and published the assessments of CHP Deputy Chairman Mehmet Tüm and former CHP MP Ali Şeker.
