What does the opposition think about Öcalan's call? How did they interpret the process?

Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly Sırrı Süreyya Önder and Van MP Pervin Buldan, forming a delegation, traveled to İmralı for the first time in nine years to hold a meeting with the leader of the terrorist organization, Abdullah Öcalan. The statements made following the meeting have sparked debates in Turkish politics, bringing claims regarding a resolution process back to the agenda.

Speaking on behalf of the DEM Party delegation, Buldan stated after the visit, "We will request appointments from the parties. We will begin visits together with Sırrı Süreyya Önder, but Ahmet Türk will most likely join our delegation as well."

İYİ PARTY: 'THERE IS NO NEGOTIATING WITH TERROR'

The harshest reaction to these initiatives by the DEM Party came from the İYİ Party. 

According to a report by Cumhuriyet, party officials stated that their stance on the process is clear, saying, "There is no negotiating with terror; it is fought against. Requests for appointments from the DEM Party will not be met."

The officials also alleged that this initiative is linked to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's potential re-election and the new constitution process. They expressed the view that, "This process could be part of a secret plan that will jeopardize Turkey's future."

HARSH REACTION FROM ÖZDAĞ: 'PEOPLE'S-ÖCALAN ALLIANCE'

Zafer Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ, in a press statement regarding the matter, characterized the meeting as a "People's-Öcalan alliance." Özdağ said, "A dirty bargain is being made in secret from the Turkish people. The state we founded with the War of Independence has been put on the table, and they are preparing to perform surgery with Öcalan."

Calling for transparency regarding the new constitution process, Özdağ said, "What does the People's Alliance plan to change? Announce your articles; let the Turkish nation know what it is voting on. Bargains made behind closed doors with the terrorist leader cast a shadow over the will of the Turkish nation," inviting the government to be transparent.

ERBAKAN GIVES THE GREEN LIGHT

New Welfare Party (YRP) leader Fatih Erbakan approached the meetings positively. Erbakan displayed a cautious approach, stating, "If there is a path to a solution, we cannot say no to it. However, this process must not damage the unity of our nation and the integrity of our country."

The meetings the DEM Party will hold with political parties and the potential new constitution process will play a decisive role in Turkey's political atmosphere. However, the rigid stance of the İYİ Party and the harsh criticisms from the Zafer Party are seen as significant obstacles to the start of a new process.
