During the deliberations on the 2024 Central Government Budget Law Proposal at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) General Assembly, Saadet Party Kocaeli MP Hasan Bitmez, who was delivering a speech, collapsed at the podium. Bitmez, who received initial intervention from İYİ Party MP Turhan Çömez, was taken under treatment at Ankara Bilkent City Hospital.

Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca stated in his announcement, "Saadet Party Deputy Chairman and Kocaeli MP Mr. Hasan Bitmez, despite all interventions in the intensive care unit of Ankara Bilkent City Hospital where he was being treated, could not be saved and passed away today at 11:50."

WHAT HAPPENS IF A MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT PASSES AWAY?

According to Article 25 of the Parliamentary Election Law No. 2839; Reductions in candidate lists due to death or resignation from the date the candidate lists are finalized until 17:00 on the day of voting do not require the completion of the lists. However, in the event of a vacancy in the candidate lists due to the aforementioned reasons, the vacant positions are filled by shifting the candidates in the list according to their list order.
